Paul Wrote the Book of Hebrews
- The KJV gives the following title to the book of Hebrews: “The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews”.
Since Paul’s name is not found in it, many doubt that he wrote it.
Paul might not have given his name in the beginning of the epistle like he did in his others because he was the apostle to the Gentiles, which might have put off his Hebrew readers.
Rom 11:13 – For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
- The following are reasons why Paul wrote the book of Hebrews.
Paul was more qualified than any other of the apostles to write a book to the Hebrews considering he was a Hebrew of the Hebrews and a Pharisee who had been trained by Gamaliel.
Gamaliel was a famous teacher among the Jews.
Act 5:34 – Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
Paul was trained by Gamaliel.
Act 22:3 – I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
Paul was a Hebrew of the Hebrews.
Php 3:4 – Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
Php 3:5 – Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
Php 3:6 – Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
Paul was in bonds, as was the writer of Hebrews.
The writer of Hebrews was in bonds (prison).
Heb 10:34 – For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.
Paul was in bonds.
Php 1:7 – Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
Php 1:13 – So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;
Php 1:14 – And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
Php 1:16 – The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
Col 4:18 – The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen.
Peter, the apostle to the Jews, said that Paul had written to the Jews (Hebrews).
Peter was the apostle to the Jews.
Gal 2:7 – But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
Gal 2:8 – (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
Peter, writing to the Jews, said that Paul wrote to them.
2Pe 3:15 – And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
Paul mentions his convert and son in the ministry, Timothy in Hebrews.
Paul mentions Timothy in Hebrews.
Heb 13:23 – Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.
The only other epistles that Timothy is mentioned in are Paul’s epistles.
The book of Hebrews ends with Paul’s signature.
Paul’s signature was some variant of “Grace be with you”, with which he ended every epistle.
2Th 3:17 – The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write.
2Th 3:18 – The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Tit 3:15 – All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.
Paul ended Hebrews with his signature.
Heb 13:25 – Grace be with you all. Amen.
