How to Get a CDL in 2022
Getting a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) became much more complicated in 2022. It used to be as simple as getting a permit and taking a driving test at a licensing center. Gone are those good old days.
Beginning in February, 2022, all people wanting to obtain a CDL have to complete a federally mandated ELDT (Entry Level Driver’s Training) course from a FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) approved training provider.
Here are the steps that you now have to take to obtain a CDL.
- Complete the ELDT Theory Curriculum. You can take the theory training online here.
- Obtain your CDL learner’s permit from your local DMV.
- Complete the ELDT Behind-the-Wheel Training (BTW) at an approved training provider.
- Take your CDL driver’s test at a state licensing center or a Third Party Examiner.
