Why We Are Not Primitive Baptists

Why are we not Primitive Baptists?

The Excelsior Springs Church holds many things in common with the Primitive Baptists when it comes to faith and practice.  However, there are five major differences that we have with them (or some of them) which are the reasons that we are not Primitive Baptists.  Those five things are:

  • The Sonship of Jesus Christ (we believe in incarnate sonship)
  • Church autonomy and independence (we are completely independent and are not part of any association)
  • Church government (we are ruled by our pastor, not deacons; and our church business is conducted according to the scriptures, not the Robert’s Rules of Order)
  • Closed communion (only the members of our church commune with our church)
  • Pagan holidays (we do not celebrate Christmas, Easter, or Halloween)

The sermons below will give scriptural support for all of these positions.

This is a three part sermon series showing from the scriptures why we are not Primitive Baptists.

Sermons Going Deeper Into the Issues

Below are sermons that cover the sonship of Christ, why associations are unbiblical, Biblical church government, closed communion, and the pagan holidays in much greater detail than did the Why We Are Not Primitive Baptists series.

The Sonship of Jesus Christ (sermons)

These sermons prove that Jesus Christ is the Son of God in His human nature, not in His divine nature.

Church Incorporation, Autonomy, and Independence (sermons)

Outline

Church Government (sermon)

This sermons shows that a church is to be ruled by one pastor, not a board of deacons.

Closed Communion (sermon)

This sermon shows from the scripture that communion is a local church ordinance and only the members of a local church should partake of communion with that church.

Outline

Pagan Holidays (sermons)

These sermons give the history of the pagan holidays of Christmas, Easter, and Halloween and show from the scripture why Christians should not celebrate them.
