Acts (Part 28) – Acts 3:22a – How Jesus is Like Moses (Part A)
Act 3:22 – For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
- For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren,
- Peter is referring to Deut 18:15, 18-19.
- Jesus was the prophet which Moses foretold of (Act 3:20; Joh 4:19).
- Jesus was raised up from the Jewish people (your brethren) (Mat 13:57; Mat 21:11; Luk 7:16-17).
- The believing Jews were looking for “that prophet,” the Messiah, to come (Joh 1:21; Joh 7:40).
- When they saw His miracles, they knew Jesus was “that prophet” (Joh 6:14).
- like unto me;
- Jesus was like Moses in at least 34 ways:
- Jesus was spared from death by a murderous king in early childhood (Mat 2:13-16 c/w Exo 1:15-17, 22; Exo 2:2).
- Jesus was called out of Egypt (Mat 2:15 c/w Hos 11:1).
- Jesus returned from Egypt when those who sought His life were dead (Mat 2:19-21), while Moses returned to Egypt when those who sought His life were dead (Exo 4:19-20).
- Jesus was raised by a person who was not His biological parent (Luk 3:23 & Luk 2:48, 51 c/w Exo 2:10).
- Jesus had a royal linage through an adopted parent (Mat 1:6, 16 c/w Heb 11:24-26).
- Jesus was a learned man from His youth (Luk 2:46-47; Mat 13:54; Joh 7:15 c/w Act 7:21-22).
- Jesus was mighty in word and deed (Luk 24:19 c/w Act 7:22).
- Jesus was rejected by His kinsmen when He came to them (Joh 1:11 c/w Act 7:23-28).
- Jesus fled into a foreign land from the king who sought to kill Him (Mat 2:13-14 c/w Exo 2:15) and from others who also attempted to kill Him (Luk 4:29-30; Joh 8:59; Joh 10:39-40).
- Jesus was/is a prophet (Mat 21:11 & Heb 1:2 c/w Deut 34:10).
- Jesus was/is a priest (Heb 4:15 c/w Psa 99:6).
- Jesus was/is a king (1Ti 6:15 c/w Deut 33:4-5).
