1.      Pro 9:18 – “But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.”

1. But he knoweth not
   17. “He” is a simple man who was enticed by the foolish woman (Satan and his ministers) to come into her house (Satan’s churches) (Pro 9:13-17). (See notes on Pro 9:13-17.)
   18. Such a man is ignorant because he knoweth not what he has gotten himself into.

• Ignorant adj. – 1. a. Destitute of knowledge, either in general or with respect to a particular fact or subject; unknowing, uninformed, unlearned.

1. To be without knowledge is not good (Pro 19:2).
2. God’s people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hos 4:6; Isa 5:13).
   1. Contrary to the claims of Big Brother, ignorance is not
   2. Contrary to conventional wisdom, ignorance is not
3. Ignorance is foolish and beastly (Psa 73:22).

• God’s children are repeatedly exhorted to be not ignorant (Rom 11:25; 1Co 10:1; 1Co 12:1; 1Th 4:13; 2Pe 3:8).
  1. The worst kind of ignorance, which must diligently be avoided, is willing ignorance (2Pe 3:5).
  2. If we are ignorant of Satan’s devices he will get an advantage over us (2Co 2:11).

1. that the dead are there;
   17. “There” is the foolish woman’s house which represents Satan’s churches (Pro 9:13-14). (See notes on Pro 9:13-17.)
   18. Satan’s church is the congregation of the dead (Pro 21:16).

• The man who is wanders out of the way of understanding will turn in to it and remain there (Pro 21:16 c/w Pro 9:16).

1. There are different types of dead people in Satan’s churches.
   1. There are unregenerate, spiritually dead people who fill their pews (Eph 2:1-3; Jud 1:12).
   2. There are children of God who are dead to fellowship with the LORD because they have forsaken God, His church, and His truth (Luk 15:11-13 c/w Luk 15:24; Joh 15:2, 6; Rom 11:15).
   3. There are children of God who are dead to wisdom and who are living like fools (Eph 5:14-17).
   4. There are people who are living in pleasure and are dead to the things of God while they live (1Ti 5:6).
2. God’s churches who are not zealous for the LORD and His truth can become dead churches (Rev 3:1-2) full of lukewarm, spiritually lifeless people (Rev 3:15-16).

1. and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
   17. “Her” is the foolish woman who represents Satan and his ministers (Pro 9:13). (See notes on Pro 9:13-17.)
   18. Those who enter the strange woman’s house (whether a literal whore, or a false religion) are on their way to hell (Pro 2:18; Pro 5:5; Pro 7:27).
       1. Those of them who are not God’s elect are on their way to hell literally (Luk 16:22-23).
       2. Those of them who are God’s elect are on their way to hell on earth (Psa 18:5; Psa 116:3; Jon 2:2).
