KJV Bible Words That Have Changed Meanings
Publish
- Mar 13:10 – And the gospel must first be published among all nations.
- Publish v. (OED) – I. 1. a. trans. To make publicly or generally known; to declare or report openly or publicly; to announce; to tell or noise abroad; also, to propagate, disseminate (a creed or system).
- Mat 24:14 – And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Constantly
- Pro 21:28 – A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
- Constantly adv. (OED) – 1. With mental constancy or steadfastness; steadfastly, steadily, resolutely; with loyal attachment, faithfully.
Comfort / Comfortable
- Isa 40:1-2 – Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. 2) Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.
- Psa 23:4 – Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
- Zec 1:13 – And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.
- Comfort v. (OED) – 1. trans. To strengthen (morally or spiritually); to encourage, hearten, inspirit, incite.
- Comfortable adj. (OED) – 1. a. Strengthening or supporting (morally or spiritually); encouraging, inspiriting, reassuring, cheering.
Strange
- Heb 11:9 – By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
- Heb 13:9 – Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
- Strange adj. (OED) – I. 1. a. Of persons, language, customs, etc.: Of or belonging to another country; foreign, alien.
- Pro 23:27 – For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

Bottle

Mad
- Ecc 7:7 – Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
- Mad – adj. (OED) – 1. a. Suffering from mental disease; beside oneself, out of one’s mind; insane, lunatic. In mod. use chiefly with a more restricted application, implying violent excitement or extravagant delusions: Maniacal, frenzied.
Mean
- Pro 22:29 – Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
- Mean – adj. (OED) – II. Inferior in rank or quality. 2. a. Of persons, their rank or station: Undistinguished in position; of low degree; often opposed to noble or gentle.
Want
- Pro 28:16 – The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.
- Want v. (OED) – 1. a. intr. To be lacking or missing; not to exist; not to be forthcoming; to be deficient in quantity or degree. 2. a. trans. Not to have; to be without, to lack; to have too little of; to be destitute of, or deficient in; to fail to have, or get.
- If you want to understand the word of God (the KJV), then invest in a good dictionary.
