The Importance of Seeking Counsel
Pro 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
Pro_20:5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
Pro 20:18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
Pro 24:6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Pro 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Pro 15:22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
Pro 19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Psa 119:24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.
Pro 19:21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
You should not make a major life decision without consulting your pastor for counsel.
Such decisions include:
Marriage
Going to college
Deciding how to educate your children
Buying a house or any other expensive item
Taking a job
Making a career or job change
Your pastor should not find out about such a decision after it has been made.
When seeking counsel, don’t seek a rubber stamp on the decision you have already made.
When seeking counsel, shut your mouth and listen.
Jas 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
If you think you don’t need counsel, then you are precisely the person who does:
Pro 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
