The Shirley god

  1. There is a new goddess being promoted in the world named Shirley.

The religion of Shirley is very open, accepting, and ecumenical.

Shirley is more concerned with her adherent’s feelings and sincerity than she is about truth.

  1. The Shirley god is quite different from the God of the Bible.

            The Shirley god loves everyone.

If you tell one of Shirley’s faithless followers that God hates some people, they will reply, “Shirley god loves everyone.”

While it is true that the goddess Shirley loves everyone, God doesn’t.

Psa 5:5 – The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

The Shirley god doesn’t care how she is worshipped as long as it is done with sincerity.

If you tell one of the Shirleyites that God wants to be worshiped according to the due order, they will reply, “Shirley god doesn’t care how we worship, as long as we are sincere.”

It’s true that soft, syrupy, Shirley loves all forms of worship, but God doesn’t.

Joh 4:24 – God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

The Shirley god is fine with her followers worshiping her with pagan holidays.

If you tell one of Shirley’s deluded disciples that God doesn’t want to be worshiped with pagan rituals, they will reply, “Shirley god doesn’t care if we celebrate Christmas and Easter.”

They’re right, being a female goddess, Shirley doesn’t care if you worship her by honoring a pagan fertility goddess or by celebrating the birth of the sun, but God forbids such paganism.

1Co 10:20 – But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

The Shirley god doesn’t care how long or short her disciples’ hair is.

If you tell one of Shirley’s pathetic proselytes that God wants women to have long hair and men to have short hair, they will reply, “Shirley god doesn’t care how long our hair is.”

True, Shirley doesn’t care about your hair length, but God does.

1Co 11:14 – Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

1Co 11:15 – But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

The Shirley god thinks feet-washing is passé.

If you tell one of Shirley’s complacent communicants that we should be observing feet-washing in church, they will reply, “Shirley god doesn’t care if we wash each other’s feet.”

They’re right again, Shirley doesn’t care about feet-washing, but God does.

Joh 13:14 – If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.

The Shirley god is cool with women preaching and leading in her entertainment facilities.

If you tell one of Shirley’s pitiful parishioners that women should not preach, teach, or speak in church, they will reply, “Shirley god doesn’t care if women speak in church.”

Once again, they are right about their goddess Shirley, but God feels quite differently.

1Co 14:34 – Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

1Ti 2:11 – Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

1Ti 2:12 – But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

III.   Choose you this day whom you will serve, will it be the Shirley goddess, or will it be the God of the Bible?
