What Did Jesus Look Like?
- So the pictures tell us that Jesus:
Was good looking
Had long hair
- Jesus was not good looking when he walked the earth.
Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Form – 1. a. The visible aspect of a thing; …occasionally, the shape or figure of the body as distinguished from the face. e. Beauty, comeliness.
Comeliness – 1. Pleasing appearance; gracefulness or beauty of form; handsomeness.
- Jesus in His gloried body is a different story.
Psa 45:2 Thou art fairer (1. Beautiful to the eye; of pleasing form or appearance; good-looking.) than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
Psa 45:3 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.
Psa 45:4 And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
Psa 45:5 Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
Psa 45:6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.
Psa 45:7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Heb 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Heb 1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
- Jesus did NOT have long hair.
It is a shame for a man to have long hair.
1Co 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
Jesus would be a hypocrite to inspire Paul to say it is a shame for a man to have long hair if He had long hair.
- Some say Jesus was a Nazarite and therefore would have had long hair.
Jesus was not a Nazarite for at least two reasons.
Jesus drank wine which a Nazarite was forbidden to do.
Num 6:3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.
Mat 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
Mat 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
Jesus touched dead bodies which a Nazarite was forbidden to do.
Num 6:6 All the days that he separateth himself unto the LORD he shall come at no dead body.
Joh 11:43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
Joh 11:44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
Mat 9:18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
Mat 9:25 But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.
