Women Can’t be Preachers and Pastors

  1. Women are not qualified to be preachers, pastors, elders, bishops, or deacons because they are not men.

            Pastors (elders, bishops) and deacons must be men, in that they must be the husband of one wife.

            1Ti 3:2 – A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

            1Ti 3:12 – Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

            Tit 1:5 – For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

            Tit 1:6 – If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

            Husband – I.  †1. The master of a house, the male head of a household.  2. a. A man joined to a woman by marriage. Correlative of wife.

            Pastors teach the word of God and have authority over the church.

            Heb 13:7 – Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

            Heb 13:17 – Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

            1Ti 5:17 – Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

            Women are expressly forbidden to teach in the church or to usurp authority over a man.

            1Ti 2:11 – Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

            1Ti 2:12 – But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

            1Ti 2:13 – For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

            1Ti 2:14 – And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

            Not only are women forbidden from teaching and holding positions of authority in the church, they are forbidden to even speak in the church service.

            1Co 14:34 – Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

            1Co 14:35 – And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

  1. Women can teach other women and children outside of the church service.

            Tit 2:3 – The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

            Tit 2:4 – That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

            Tit 2:5 – To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

III. Women can also be helpers of the church and the pastor.

            Rom 16:1 – I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:

            Rom 16:2 – That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.

            Rom 16:3 – Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:

            Rom 16:4 – Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
