The Not-Living Translation

  1. The New Living Translation should be called the Not Living Translation.
  2. The Not-Living Translation corrupts the doctrine of the Trinity.

            1Jo 5:7

KJV – “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” (1Jo 5:7)

NLT – “So we have these three witnesses” (1Jo 5:7)

The Not-Living Translation corrupts the doctrine of the deity of Jesus Christ.

1Ti 3:16

KJV – “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh…” (1Ti 3:16)

NLT – “Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body…” (1Ti 3:16)

            Eph 3:9

KJV – “And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:” (Eph 3:9)

NLT – “I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning.” (Eph 3:9)

The Not-Living Translation corrupts the doctrine of the preservation of the scriptures.

Psa 12:6-7

KJV – “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. 7) Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” (Psa 12:6-7)

NLT – “The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. 7) Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation,” (Psa 12:6-7)

The Not-Living Translation corrupts the doctrine of baptism.

Act 8:36-38

KJV – “36) And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37) And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38) And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.” (Act 8:36-38)

NLT – “36) As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look! There’s some water! Why can’t I be baptized?” [verse 37 missing] 38) He ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.” (Act 8:36-38)

The Not-Living Translation removes all references to the word “sodomite”.

Deu 23:17

KJV – “There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.” (Deu 23:17)

NLT – ““No Israelite, whether man or woman, may become a temple prostitute.” (Deu 23:17)

1Ki 14:24

KJV – “And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.” (1Ki 14:24)

NLT – “There were even male and female shrine prostitutes throughout the land. The people imitated the detestable practices of the pagan nations the Lord had driven from the land ahead of the Israelites.” (1Ki 14:24)

1Ki 15:12

KJV – “And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.” (1Ki 15:12)

NLT – “He banished the male and female shrine prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his ancestors had made.” (1Ki 15:12)

2Ki 23:7

KJV – “And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the grove.” (2Ki 23:7)

NLT – “He also tore down the living quarters of the male and female shrine prostitutes that were inside the Temple of the Lord, where the women wove coverings for the Asherah pole.” (2Ki 23:7)

The Not-Living Translation removes all references to the word “fornication”.

Fornication n. – Voluntary sexual intercourse between a man (in restricted use, an unmarried man) and an unmarried woman. In Scripture extended to adultery.

1Co 6:18

KJV – “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” (1Co 6:18)

NLT – “Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.” (1Co 6:18)

1Th 4:3

KJV – “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:” (1Th 4:3)

NLT – “God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin.” (1Th 4:3)
