Two Everythings
- Two reconciliations
- Eternal reconciliation
- Eternal reconciliation is a completed action by God, and there nothing the elect can do to affect it.
- Reconcile v. – I. 1. a. trans. To bring (a person) again into friendly relations to or with (oneself or another) after an estrangement.
- The elect were reconciled to God by the death of Jesus Christ.
- Rom 5:9 – Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
- Rom 5:10 – For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
- Rom 5:11 – And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
- God hath reconciled His elect to himself by Jesus Christ.
- 2Co 5:18 – And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
- This eternal reconciliation happened on the cross.
- 2Co 5:19 – To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
- Col 1:20 – And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
- Col 1:21 – And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
- Col 1:22 – In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
- Temporal reconciliation
- There is also a temporal aspect of reconciliation with God in this life which is conditioned on the elect’s obedience.
- This temporal ministry of reconciliation is tasked to God’s ministers.
- 2Co 5:18 – And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
- It’s their job to tell God’s elect that God hath reconciled them.
- 2Co 5:19 – To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
- They tell the elect whom God hath reconciled eternally to be reconciled to God temporally.
- 2Co 5:20 – Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
